Schwul ally zürich
We all read the same book every month, and then get together to chat about the book. The books we choose alternate: an LGBTQ themed book one month, and a Classic or other interesting book in the next month. I also like to make sure we read in many different genres - from novels, autobiographies and sci-fi, to plays, short stories and novellas.
Our members are from all around the word, and as such, in an international book club, these "other" books could be linked to our countries of origin , or a classic book or anything else that takes our fancy when suggestions are made. Feel free to make suggestions of books that have personal meaning or tells a story of your home or a journey you have been on.
We meet at Cranberry bar in Zürich on the 2nd last Tuesday of the month. Occasionally it will be a different day, depending on my work travel - but I note this in the app. This group will also meet monthly, and has an initial limit of 12 person due to venue size at the Regenbogenhaus.
Schwul ally: was bedeutet das und wie werde ich einer in zürich?
The Sci-Fi Fantasy group also has a separate Whatsapp Group chat, and Excel sheet for suggesting and voting on books to read. Please refrain from bringing and consuming your own water or drinks. IMPORTANT additional information: I am very happy about how popular this book club has become, but it is my intention to keep the monthly events smallish - with a maximum of persons.
This allows for a mutually beneficial exchange about the book. The venue also does not allow more people than that. Please be sure to RSVP only if you can really come, so that persons on the waiting list have a chance. My apologies in advance if you cannot attend an event due to it being fully subscribed already I do NOT to run an event in a lecture hall with 40 people, that is completely not what I am interested in.
Author of Empire of Sand and Realm of Ash Tasha Suri's The Jasmine Throne , beginning a new trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies on a dark journey to save their empire from the princess's traitor brother.
Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.
One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire. I'm very excited - we have something special in August: Some of you will have heard that I was approached by an award-winning French author, if we want to read his new book in our book club.
So, we will have a live, online connection to the author Anthony McFly and the translator Nicola Clitheroe! The book is only available on Amazon as an e-book see the link at the end of the post, or in the excel sheet. This is the story of an evening in his life. Of the evening of his life.
Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable.
Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now…. Funny, unexpected, horrifying, and altogether convincing, The Handmaid's Tale is at once scathing satire, dire warning, and tour de force.
